Joyce was born near Greeley, Colorado on November 19, 1938 to Reuben Howard and Alma LaVonne (Lamar) Buckendorf. She graduated from Greeley High School. She married C. Alan Kesler in Greeley on June 12, 1959 and they had just celebrated 53 years together.
Joyce worked as an office manager for the Longmont Athletic Club for a number of years and also in several medical offices. She enjoyed reading and participating in internet games and staying in touch with friends and family through the internet.

After she and Alan retired, they traveled in their motor home throughout the United States. She touched the lives of many family members, nieces and nephews and friends and will be missed greatly.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, brother Alfred Buckendorf, and sisters: Beulah Landdeck, Violet Langley and Juanita Jarrett. Her brother Larry Buckendorf died on Monday following her death.
She is survived by her husband Alan, her son Doug of Longmont, her daughter Kristy Beach and her husband Sanjay of Westlake, Ohio; her sisters Dianna Marsten and husband Michael of San Jose, CA and Ruby Spignesi of Sacramento, CA and her sister-in-law Peggy Buckendorf of Longmont. She is also survived by her four grandchildren Kalpana, Makis, Tariq, and Jalen.
