John was born July 16, 1956 in Minneapolis, Minnesota to Harold and Signe (Holten) Rustad. He attended Centennial Schools in Golden, CO and went on to attend Colorado Aero Tech / Rocky Mountain Flight School. John was married to his wife Luz for 18 years and was a loving and generous husband. John had been a pilot for 30 years and retired in July 2015. In his spare time he liked to travel, read, ride his bicycle and be a handyman around the house fixing what ever needed his attention. John is survived by his wife Luz, sons Eddy Rustad of New Zealand, Christian Rustad of Chile and his daughter Christina Rustad of Alabama. John is also survived by his grandchildren; Danni Mejia, Nicholas Rustad, Andres Rustad, Kai Rustad and Evie Bastian; his sisters Karen Boisen, Mary Rustad, Lizbeth Rustad-Ponder and Erlene O'Lausson.
