John Paul Goodman, 74, of Boulder passed away May 7, 2018 at Boulder Community Health. He was born December 10, 1943 in Cañon City, Colorado to John D. and Ruth (Hardy) Goodman.John was raised and attended High School in Cañon City. He moved to Boulder to attend the University of Colorado and was a Buffs fan until the end. He received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master's degree in Music Education from CU. John married his soulmate and best friend, Cathy Sickert on August 1, 1970 in Klamath Falls, Oregon. John was an educator for forty one years in Boulder at Burbank Junior High, Fairview High, Casey Middle and Douglas Elementary schools, as well as Manhattan School of the Arts. After his retirement he continued to volunteer at public schools in both Boulder and Longmont. He was a huge proponent of keeping the arts in school. He also taught Spanish with most of his volunteer teaching focused on ESL students. Teaching was one of his greatest passions and he influenced hundreds of student's lives with his love for them. A great humanitarian in word and deed, he helped start the Nicaragua Project in 2000, which built a community center in Somoto, Nicaragua that serves as a school today and that they named after him. Overcoming great obstacles after being diagnosed with Polio as a child, John lettered in tennis in high school. John is survived by his wife Cathy, four daughters; Kimberly Goodman, Bobbie Goodman, Racheal Goodman and Mendy Hernandez and a grandson Nathan Hernandez. He was preceded in death by his parents, survived by father-in-law, Keith Sickert. As close to an angel on earth as ever there was, a source of inspiration who was loved by so many, he leaves a legacy of goodness. The Memorial Service will be held 10:30 AM Saturday May 12, 2018 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Inurnment to follow in the Bethlehem Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the John Goodman Memorial Fund. Donations will go towards enhancing the lives of children, locally and globally.
