John Robert Gibson of Longmont, Colorado passed away October 28, 2024 in Longmont. He was born on December 22, 1941. John grew up in Port Arthur, Texas with his younger brother, Gordon, where they spent time playing outdoors, swimming and fishing near the gulf. John graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School in 1960 and continued his education at the University of Houston where he obtained a degree in Electrical Technology. He served our country in the US Airforce from August 1961 and was honorably discharged in May 1966. During that time, he met the love of his life, Doris Stephens. They married in Little Rock, Arkansas on January 2, 1963 and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
John worked most of his life for Hewlett-Packard and lived many places over the years including Port Arthur Texas, Anchorage Alaska, Schoenaich Germany, Bakersfield California, Houston Texas, Greeley Colorado and Atlanta Georgia before moving back to Colorado in his later years.
John Gibson was a loving father who was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a man who showed unconditional love in all things. He was born a kind soul, and never met a stranger. He had a passion for books, music, bowling, swimming, and was a fantastic ping pong player. He was a man who followed his heart, and had faith that all things would work out as they were meant to be. He was a thoughtful person who gave consideration to all of the world’s questions and approached life with a sense of adventure and a desire to experience new places and things.
He will be best remembered as a man who laughed easily and often and had a smile for everyone.
John is survived by his wife Doris Ruth Stephens Gibson, his brother Gordon Russell Gibson Jr, his son Jon Eric Gibson, his daughter Julie Dawn Gibson Dietrich, and was preceded in death by his father Gordon Russell Gibson Sr. and his mother Marjorie Madden Gibson
He is remembered with fondness by his grandchildren Zachary, Katherine, and Olivia Dietrich as well as Kelly, Annie, and Megan Gibson, his sister Hilda Courville, his daughter-in-law Colleen Gibson, his son-in-law Tom Dietrich, and many brothers and sisters in law.
A Celebration Gathering for John will be held Friday, November 8, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Howe Mortuary, 439 Coffman Street, Longmont, Colorado.
