Joan Dorothy Kappell

Joan Dorothy Lockwood was born on November 28, 1940, in Nebraska to LeRoy and Catherine (Wilson) Lockwood. The family moved to Longmont, CO in 1941 and Joan graduated from Longmont High School in 1958.

Joan married Frank Kingman in March of 1959, and they had two children, Donna Mullison and Jo Ann Fodge. They later divorced. Thereafter, Joan remarried Robert Kappell in April, 1986. She and Bob enjoyed traveling and playing the piano. Joan would entertain friends and relatives by playing the piano, by ear, never needing sheet music.

In her free time, Joan enjoyed going to coffee or lunch with her friends, helping her neighbors, spending time with family, baking holiday goodies, reading and working puzzle books.

Joan was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, her brother Stewart Lockwood, her twin sister Joyce Frank and her sister Cathy Unrein.

Joan is survived by her daughter Donna Mullison of Longmont, Colorado; her daughter Jo Ann Fodge (John) of St. Joseph, Missouri; her grandchildren Matthew Mullison (Sabrina) of Fulshear, Texas and Meghan Greene (Justin) of Broomfield, Colorado; her great-grandchildren Everett Mullison, Nolan Greene and Nora Greene; her sister Linda Boles of Birmingham, Alabama and her brother Frank Lockwood (Ginger) of Longmont, Colorado; as well as an extended family of nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:30pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024 at Westview Presbyterian church in Longmont, Colorado. Joan will be laid to rest with her Husband Bob at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Westview Presbyterian Church building/remodeling fund, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer or TRU Hospice.
