
Jewell Irene (King) Martindale, 97, of Longmont, CO, passed on Friday, February 25, 2011, at her residence.Jewell was born to Albert Knight King and Ida Foster King on September, 26, 1913. She was raised on the 160 acre tract of land her father claimed during the September 22, 1891, Oklahoma Land Run. She attended grade school and graduated from Ripley High School. Jewell excelled in basketball and track.Jewell was united in marriage to Alton Fitzgerald in 1934. He was with engineering companies who built and ran oil refineries in Canada, Puerto Rico, and other foreign countries. A sudden death claimed his life while on assignment in San Dimengo, Dominican Republic. They had thirty years together. After his death, Jewell worked for the State of Oklahoma.In 1966, Jewell came to Longmont with Amphenal Corporation and Sullivan's Drug Store. She also managed apartments for Dial Construction Company, Howard Stewart president of Basher Builders. Jewell enjoyed raising flowers, oil painting, working with ceramics, and working as a community volunteer. She often shared her great love for the mountains with relatives and friends. Jewell was of Christian faith. She is preceded in death by her first and second husbands, mother and father, sister Allie Gillespie, nephew Kenneth Gillespie, brother Dow King, and grand niece Vickie Judge. She is survived by grand nephew Randy Fillmore. Cremation has been held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel.
