Jeff Stumpf, a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and adventure.
Jeff and his beloved wife, Cathy Ann Stumpf, shared over four decades of marriage filled with joy, travel, and shared passions. Married on August 29, 1981, they were true partners in life—attending countless art shows, theater productions, music festivals, and entertainment events together and traveling to gorgeous countries throughout the world.
He and Cathy spent 15 incredible years traveling to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, enjoying rounds of golf and sunsets by the sea.
Together, they raised two daughters, Stephane and Michelle, whom they adored beyond words. Jeff took great pride in being a father. He never missed a soccer game, basketball match, or dance competition, traveling across Colorado as his daughters’ biggest fan. His joy only grew as the family expanded when they welcomed sons-in-law Zach Hart and Sheldon Ehlers to the family. Jeff was overjoyed when Michelle and Sheldon welcomed their son, Sawyer, who quickly became the cherished center of the family. Becoming a grandfather was one of the most exciting and rewarding experiences of Jeff’s life, and he loved his sons-in-law deeply.
Jeff is survived by his loving wife, Cathy Ann Stumpf; his daughters, Stephane Rae Stumpf (Zach Hart) of Longmont, CO, and Michelle Christine Ehlers (Sheldon Ehlers) of Johnstown, CO; and his cherished grandson, Sawyer Ethan Ehlers of Johnstown, CO. He is also survived by his brother, Jed Stumpf (Julie Stumpf) of Silver City, NM, and his sister, Jennifer Hayes of San Diego, CA. Jeff was preceded in death by his brothers, Josh Stumpf and Jeremy Stumpf.
Professionally, Jeff was a self-taught software engineer, respected and admired in his field for over 40 years. His career was a testament to his intellect, determination, and dedication.
Outside of work, Jeff was a man of many passions. A lifelong hobbyist, he began building and flying model airplanes when his daughters were young. He was a proud and active member of the Longmont Aircraft Modelers Association (LAMA) for over 35 years. His love of motorsports led him to race motocross in 1979, with Cathy enthusiastically cheering him on from the sidelines. Later, he joined a motorcycle group in Longmont, embracing the thrill of the ride and the camaraderie of fellow enthusiasts.
Jeff was also a certified scuba diver, exploring shipwrecks and marveling at marine life on unforgettable dives—including a surprising encounter with bull sharks. He had a deep appreciation for craft and detail, especially when it came to his passion for home brewing. For years, he developed beer recipes with great care, even growing his own hops at home.
A fierce competitor, Jeff played softball for teams in Boulder and Longmont where he not only enjoyed the sport he loved, but also built lasting friendships and cherished memories.
Recently, Jeff and Cathy fulfilled a long-time dream by retiring to Panama City Beach, Florida. They moved to Latitude Margaritaville, where they embraced a vibrant new chapter—making new friends, dining out, and enjoying their pool and hot tub.
Jeff leaves behind hearts full of love and memories that will be treasured forever. Though he has left this world, his spirit lives on in the adventures he inspired and the love he gave so freely.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Longmont Humane Society, an organization close to Jeff’s heart.
He will be deeply missed.
