Jean Capraro Montano went to eternal rest on January 2, 2013. She was currently a resident at the Sunrise of Westminster Community on 10280 Sheridan Boulevard, Westminster, Colorado.
She was Born in Utica, New York on March 28, 1924 where she lived most of her life until moving to Colorado in December 2011. She was a daughter of Rocco and Luigina Capraro.
Jean was a graduate of Thomas R. Proctor High School, class of 1941. She attended Hartwick College where she earned her Business Education teaching degree.
She also studied graduate work at Utica College and Syracuse University.
In 1948 she returned to her alma mater, Proctor High School, where she became the first graduate to return to Proctor High School in the Business Education Department.
In December 1948 she was joined in marriage to Frank Montano. Jean and Frank enjoyed 27 years of marriage until Frank passed away in April 1975.
After raising her family of three children she returned to teaching by taking positions both in the Secretarial Department of Mohawk Valley Community College and other local schools.
Jean was a member of the Senior Guild at St. Anne’s Catholic Church for many years. She also volunteered at Family Services, the Heritage Home, Faxton Children’s Hospital and the Literacy Program.
Jean was pre-deceased by her sister, Susan Zambon, her brother-in-law Armand Zambon, her brother Michael Capraro, her sister in law Betsey Capraro, her brother in law Donald Montano, and her sister in law Maureen Montano.
Surviving her are her beloved children and their spouses, her son Robert and wife Laura, Rockville, Md; son Fran and wife Angela, Los Angeles, CA; daughter Kathy Pendleton.
Also, she leaves her dear grandchildren who brought much love and joy to her life. Michele, Robert and Michael Montano, Rockville, MD; Tracy Marie, Adam, Joseph and David Pendleton, Broomfield, CO and Grace Emily Montano, Los Angeles, CA.
She leaves her brother and wife, Rocco and Veronica Capraro, Camillus, NY; brother-in-law Nicholas Montano and wife Bibi, Palm Harbor, FL, sister-in-law Catherine Montano, Oldsmar, FL and sister-in-law Marian Swinski and husband Joseph Swinski, Leesburg, FL.
She also leaves many nieces and nephews, all very dear to her. Jean enjoyed playing cards and board games with her friends and family, crossword puzzles, knitting, crocheting and stimulating conversation on topics of both historical and current events. Her smile, laughter and quick wit will be missed by her family, many good friends and neighbors, but her spirit will remain. We will truly miss her presence.
