Jean Dorothy Aynes, 87, of Longmont, died February 27, 2019 in Longmont with her family by her side. She was born June 29, 1931 to Dorothy (Wilke) and Sexton Granath in Chicago, Illinois. At the age of one, she moved to Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and at age 5 she moved to Los Angeles, where she went to school, graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School in 1950. She then attended Los Angeles City College.
While living in Los Angeles Jean met her future husband thru co-workers at Western Airlines. She married William “Rocky” Aynes Jr. on August 4, 1956. To that marriage three children were born: William the III, Kim and Karen.
The family moved to Longmont in July of 1963 when Rocky was transferred with work at the FAA. Upon Rocky’s retirement in 1980, they moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia where they lived for 3 years, traveling around the world, seeing places in Africa, all throughout the Far East, Europe, Egypt and the Seychelles Islands. She said her favorite places were Hong Kong and Venice, Italy. She enjoyed collecting shells in the Red Sea, but most of all she enjoyed time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean is survived by her son Bill (DawnMarie) Aynes of Firestone, daughter Kim (Len) Grim of Canyon Country, CA and her daughter Karen (Dennis) Johnson of Thornton, CO; six grandsons: Aaron and Tim Frei, Ryan and Lenny Grim, Billy and Chris Aynes and four step-grandsons Evan and Dylan Koutsos and Wes and Steven Johnson. She is further survived by five great grandchildren, her sister in law Pat Granath of California, and sister in law Shirley Dunyon of Long Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1995, her parents and her brother.
Jean belonged to the Knit and Purl knitting group at the Longmont Senior Center, where she enjoyed the time she spent making things for charity. Jean had also been a Four H leader, a Brownie and Cub Scout leader.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 8, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm at the Howe Mortuary in Longmont. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, March 9 at Foothills Gardens of Memory.
