Born in York, Nebraska, to John and Leah Weldon, Janice was born into a large family, one of 12 siblings. Janice married Gary Earl Schumacher on June 12, 1960. Together they moved to Colorado in 1970, where Janice worked as a seamstress, cafeteria staff for the St. Vrain Valley School District twice, and later as a crossing guard alongside her husband, Gary. She sold Avon to anyone who was interested but mostly as an avid lover of their lipstick, which she never left home without. From time to time, she would allow her daughters and granddaughter to raid the closet for samples. While working for the school district, she enjoyed all of the smiling faces she encountered on a daily basis and treated every kid like they were one of her grandchildren. Janice loved sewing and knitting, keeping all of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren fighting to see who would get the next bear, beanbag, blanket, or hat that she made. She was an amazing cook, bringing cold fried chicken anywhere she could, even the parking lot of Elitch Gardens for a lunchtime break. She was also a fan favorite at family dinners or community potlucks. More importantly, Janice supported her children and grandchildren at every sporting event she could attend and regularly took down her own stats, going over them with us after games or matches.
Janice passed away peacefully in her home under the care of Tru Community Care Hospice. She is survived by daughter Therese Godfrey (Robb Godfrey) of Chappell, Nebraska, daughter Brenda Schumacher of Longmont, Colorado, and daughter-in-law Connie Rankin; grandchildren Angela Heverly (Chris Heverly), Justin Smith, Lane Godfrey (Amanda Godfrey and children Knox, Daxton, Eden and Eliza), Chase Schumacher, Brett Godfrey, Ty Vigil (Leah Hernandez and children Daisy and Jade), and Zachary Vigil. She is also survived by brothers Jason, Leo, Harry, and Johnny and sisters Lisa, Mary, Tina, and Lois.
Janice was preceded in death by her husband Gary Schumacher, son Craig Schumacher, her parents, brother Wilbert, and sisters Betty and Joann.
A Celebration of life for Janice will be held Saturday, May 10th, 2025, 10:30am at Our Savior's Lutheran Church,1221 17th Ave, Longmont, CO 80501.
