Janet Gail Pearson of Longmont died on July 17, 2024 in Longmont. Born to Alvin and Goldie Pearson in Blunt, South Dakota on April 10, 1935, Gail moved with her family to Grand Junction, Colorado and then pursued a degree in nursing through the Army Nursing Program.
This began a dedicated and distinguished career. Ms. Pearson served twenty-six years in the U.S. Air Force, three years in the Army Reserve, and two years in the Naval reserve as she rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel before retiring after thirty-one years of dedicated service to her country. While in the Reserves, Janet graduated with a Master’s Degree from Teachers College of Columbia University in New York City.
After retirement from the armed services, Janet moved to Denver where she worked for the Denver Public Schools as a nurse for a number of years. She later moved to Longmont where she was near her family and especially her niece, Gail Fray, longtime Longmont resident and accomplished musician.
Preceded in death by her parents, brother Jerry, and sisters, Helen and Joyce, Colonel Pearson is survived by her niece, Gail Ann Fray, and nephew, Bruce Bowles.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Atria Senior Living (Longmont) on August 14th at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Doctors Without Borders, https://doctorswithoutborders.org. Lieutenant Colonel Pearson will be interred at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at a later date.
