James Edward Smith

Born to John and Bessie Smith on March 8, 1946 in Denison, Texas where he grew up.

April 1968 James married Linda Whitfill and together they had a daughter, Jalene and also raised and adopted Danny Smith and Billy Corbin. The summer of 1977 they moved to Longmont, Colorado where he worked at IBM until his retirement.

After his divorce in 1987, he met and married Vicki Starnes, October 9, 1988. They had many fun years together with family, traveling, camping until her death May 3, 2012.

James was a quiet, humble, devout Christian who loved the Lord with all his heart. He deeply cared for his family and was a true example of Christ showing through him. Never heard him say a bad word about anyone.

In his pass time he loved riding motorcycles with family and friends whether it's in the mountains or just a short ride for coffee, ice cream, and fishing. Above all, he enjoyed family time He was still riding eight weeks before his death.

His is survived by his daughter Jalene Welzig (Jimmy) of LaSalle, Colorado, stepsons Danny Smith (Leslie) of Pine, Colorado, Billy Corbin of Sherman, Texas and stepdaughter Jessica Skidmore-Chisholm (Melinda) of Indiana, brother Robert Smith of Denison, Texas, sister Martha Davis of Denton, Texas and sister Ann Smith of Denison, Texas. Many grandchildren Casey Welzig (Olivia), Cassy Brack (Will), Wyatt Welzig (Bri), Grace Davies (Jake), Trisha Lee (Bill), Chance Corbin, Jessica Smith and Paul Smith and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, who all loved him dearly.

He is preceded in death by his parents, wife Vicki and sister Wanda Floyd.

James will be greatly missed by his family and friends who love him dearly. We will reunite in heaven with him someday and rejoice in the promise in eternal life.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 6:00 pm on Tuesday December 3, 2024 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel 326 Terry St. Longmont, CO 80501. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 am on Wednesday December 4, 2024 at the Kersey Community Church 26221 Co Rd 53, Kersey, CO 80644. Burial will be held at Berthoud Greenlawn Cemetery.
