James W. Jones died March 21, 2014 at Longmont United Hospital. He was 67 years old.He was born September 10, 1946 in Flint, Michigan to J.C. Glen and Eleanor (Zielinski) Jones. Jim graduated from Flint Central High School in 1964 and from Michigan State University in 1968. On December 21, 1968 Jim married Linda Pazdernik. They moved to Colorado and later divorced. He married Monica Shumaker on August 16, 1977 in Loveland, Colorado. This union also ended in a divorce. He spent the final ten years of his life in loving companionship with Julene Bair.Jim was a design engineer, had a long career in developing medical devices, and was lead inventor on several patents. He worked for Hewlett Packard from 1968 to 1982. He left HP to found Apogee, Inc. where he served as President and CEO. After Apogee folded in 1995, Jim continued his career as an engineer for various medical device companies in Boulder and Larimer counties. Jim enjoyed the outdoors, especially water activities including lake swimming and kayaking; motocross racing; and hiking.He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson J Angel, Jr. Guzman.Jim is survived by three children Courtney Johnson (David), Lindsey Jansen (Chad) and Nathan Jones (Jennifer), grandchildren Lindsey Jones, Layla Jones, Maxwell Jansen and Jacob Johnson, brother Robert Jones Sr. (Mary), life partner Julene Bair and several nephews and their families.A viewing will be held at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, March 24. And a memorial gathering to celebrate Jim's life will take place at 4 pm on Tuesday, March 25 at 6217 Corinth Road, Longmont, CO. Sharing of memories will begin at 4:35 pm with a potluck dinner immediately afterward. Cremation entrusted to Ahlberg Funeral Chapel and Crematory. In lieu of flowers the family will be encouraging donations to an organization that researches the prevention and treatment of cerebral amyloid angiopathy.
