Gertrude Jennie Riley, 92, of Brighton, died February 5, 2012 at the Brighton Care Center. She was born February 22, 1919 to Elmer “Mick” and Jennie (Washburn) Coughlin.
She was raised in the Sugarloaf and Boulder area, attended school in Boulder, working for room and board so that she could graduate from Boulder Prep School.
On May 20, 1938 she married Thomas Riley in Sugarloaf, CO. To that union, 4 children were born.
Gertrude and Thomas lived in Nederland for 45 years, from 1946 through 1991. While living in Nederland they managed the Nederland Super Market and she also cooked at the Nederland Schools. She was also active in the community of Nederland, serving as PTA President, and as an Elder of the Sunday school. They moved to Longmont in 1991. Thomas preceded her in death in 1993. She then moved to Brighton in 2007.
Survivors include her sons: Tom (Carra) Riley and Mike (Sue) Riley; her daughter Pat (Stan) Maynard, 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great granddaughter. Numerous nieces and nephews further survive her.
Her parents, her husband, one son Steve Riley, 1 sister and 3 brothers preceded her in death.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. at the Howe Mortuary.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Foothills Gardens of Memory, Longmont.
