Gerald was born in St. Francis, Kansas, on November 13th, 1943, to Frank Magley and Mary Magley. Gerald and his siblings grew up on a farm in Kansas until he was nine years old. In 1952 Gerald's family moved from St. Francis, Kansas, to Longmont, Colorado. In his youth, Gerald attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School in Longmont, Colorado, and Graduated from Longmont High School in 1962.
After High School, Gerald, better known by Gerry, attended the Colorado Art Institute of Denver, earning a Certificate in Commercial Arts. While attending the Art Institute, Gerry was drafted into the United States Army in 1967. He served as an Army Para Rescue Medic during the Vietnam War. After his service in the Army, Gerry was inspired by the Beach Boys and headed west to California. Not long after moving, Gerry met his "California Girl," Denise Bosnak.
Gerry Magley and Denise (Bosnak) Magley were married on July 4th, 1970. Shortly after getting married, Gerry and Denise moved to Ft. Collins, Colorado, where they both attended Colorado State University.
Gerry graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts and Graphic Design in 1974. After graduating from Colorado State, he worked for Colorado State University’s Office of Cultural programs, where he created much Graphic advertising for the University. Gerry was awarded 2nd place in a National Design Challenge for the Colorado State University logo currently used today. Gerry continued his creative endeavors as an Independent Graphic Designer for over 20 years.
Gerry and Denise moved from Ft. Collins to Longmont in 1975 where they started their family. Gerry and his family resided in Longmont, where he raised three children and grandchildren. Gerry retired in 2009 after working in Boulder for The United Postal Service for 15 years.
Throughout his life, Gerry enjoyed collecting and restoring Classic Cars and was an avid Colorado Sports fan, Artistic craftsman, and artist. Gerry enjoyed trips to Estes Park and spending time with his family. Gerry was known for his dry sense of humor, being a hard worker, a collector of many unique keepsakes, creative ingenuity, and loving personality.
Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Mary Magley, his brother Bryan Magley, and his nephews Ryan Amaya and Alex Merich. Gerald Sherlock Magley is survived by his wife Denise Magley, his children Jessica, Mathew and Christy Magley, Sara and Bradley Kramer, his grandchildren Dylan, Alana, Emily, his siblings Dale, Bruce, Lynn Magley, Michelle Amaya and MaryAnn Herman, nieces and nephews, Sean, Matt, Ryan (RT), Nealson, Mandy, Elizabeth, Brianna, and Devin.
A Celebration of Gerry's Life was held Thursday, September 29, 2022 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, Colorado. He was laid to rest in a Graveside Service at Foothills Gardens of Memory, in Longmont, Colorado. The family extends their deepest gratitude for all those that were able to attend Gerry's services and for joining them at a Gathering of Family & Friends at The Kramer Home.
