George (Gary) Shepherd, DVM was born 7/16/1944 and died of natural causes on 7/25/2021. Gary grew up in Salida, Colorado and passed away in Longmont, Colorado. He was drafted during the Vietnam War and served from 1967-1968. Gary immediately enlisted in the National Guard and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1990. Gary graduated from CSU’s School of Veterinarian Medicine and practiced large animal medicine in Lafayette for many years. Gary then worked for the USDA until he retired in 2010. He was an avid outdoorsman and thoroughly enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and living in the foothills for over 22 years. Gary is survived by his loving wife Chris Shepherd, his brother Dennis, his sons Shad, Brad, Sean, Seth, his daughter Kaitlin, and his 8 grandchildren. His family will miss him dearly but we are thankful that he has gained his freedom. A Celebration of Life will be held this fall, please contact Howe Mortuary in Longmont for more information.
