Everett Leroy Stetson, of Longmont, passed away at his home on December 14, 2018. He was 79 years old. He was born August 24, 1939 in Crawford, Nebraska to Lester and Eleanora (Jensen) Stetson. Everett attended the local schools and was a 1958 graduate of Crawford High School. He was the oldest of the five Stetson children and growing up in a small farming community, it was necessary for Everett and his siblings to help on the family farm. However, during his younger years, he found time to participate in Boy Scouts of America, FFA as well as his high school’s athletic teams. Everett lettered in football, basketball and track where he was a shot and discus thrower.
After high school graduation, Everett joined the United States Marine Corps in 1959. After serving overseas in Okinawa, he was stationed in Yorktown, Virginia. His duty assignment was small arms at the Naval Weapons Station. While on military leave, his brother Larry, introduced him to a young waitress in Longmont, Colorado by the name of Dianne Houck. The two continued their long distance relationship while Everett was still serving his country. He was honorably discharged as a Lance Corporal in January of 1963. In the summer of 1964, Everett and Dianne were married in Longmont. They would be blessed with two children, Michael and Brenda.
After serving his country and completing his duty as a United States Marine, Everett started working in the construction industry. He specialized in masonry. Throughout his career, Everett was employed with Dauch’s Masonry, Del’s Masonry and Soderberg Masonry. He had the distinction of doing the masonry work on several notable facilities such as Denver International Airport, Coors Field, Pepsi Center, the new Mile High Stadium, the maximum security prisons in Florence and Sterling, The Denver Mint and the Denver Court House. He also did work on several hospitals and educational facilities. Following his retirement from the construction industry, Everett went to work in the hardware department at the North Wal-Mart in Longmont. He would continue working there for the next five years until finally settling into full retirement.
Everett was a loving and devoted husband and father. He enjoyed the many family reunions and gatherings he attended and was dedicated to following his son Mike’s high school athletic career. Everett was a member of The American Legion and was very active in his church. His hobbies included camping and fishing and he enjoyed the Colorado mountains. He was especially fond and proud of his granddaughter, Kiowa.
Everett is survived by his children, Mike (Coqui) Stetson and Brenda (Justin) Parrill of Longmont; granddaughter, Kiowa Stetson of Longmont; siblings, Larry (Charlene) Stetson and Lois (Jerry) Millsap as well as nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Everett was preceded in death by his wife, Dianne and siblings, Kenneth and Keith Stetson.
A visitation will take place at Howe Mortuary from 5pm until 7pm, Thursday, December 20, 2018. Funeral services will be held at New Creation Church, 737 Bross Street in Longmont on Friday, December 21, 2018. Interment will take place with full military honors at Mountain View Cemetery in Longmont.
