Doris Stein, of Loveland and Longmont, Colorado, passed away Monday, June 9, 2008, at Longmont United Hospital. She was 86 years old.Doris was born November 19, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, to Gus and Elizabeth (Wegner) Hofer. After graduating from Steinmetz High School in 1939, she worked as a hairdresser. She flew to Miami, Florida, and married Russell Otto Stein on September 20, 1943, who was working in Panama at the time. The couple made their home in the Chicago area until 1967 when they moved to a mountain home in Allenspark, Colorado they named ""Wildwood Acres"". The couple later lived in the Boulder/Longmont area, and had moved to Loveland in 2005.While primarily a homemaker, Mrs. Stein had worked in medical records and health care administration. She traveled extensively. She also enjoyed dancing, sewing, fishing, and especially entertaining guests. Most important in her life was spending time with her family; she adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Those left to celebrate her memory include two daughters, Susan Bowers, and Patsy Henshaw and her husband, Michael; four grandchildren, Bruce Henshaw and his wife, Heather, Kerri Atkinson and her husband, John, Carrie Bowers and her husband, Dan, and Zack Peecher and his wife, Kelly; four great-grandchildren, Hannah Atkinson, age 11, Tristan Atkinson, 9, Halley Peecher, 4, and Anna Peecher, 1; and a sister, Catherine Rodda and her husband, Vern.She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Russell of 63 years; and a sister, Marie Thomas.A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 14, 2008, at LifeBridge Christian Church, Longmont.Memorials may be made to HospiceCare of Boulder and Broomfield Counties, 2594 Trailridge Drive East, Suite A, Lafayette, CO 80026.Please share thoughts, memories and condolences with the family at www.howemortuary.com.
