David was born on December 3, 1934 in Littleton, CO to Carroll and Florence (Erickson) Huntley. He grew up in Castle Rock and graduated from Castle Rock High School. He had 4 sisters (Elaine, Patsy, Nancy and Robin), enjoyed riding horses, participating in 4-H, working on the ranch, and competing at an early age in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) where he won numerous awards for bull riding and roping events.
After high school, David joined the Marine Corps where he gallantly served for 3 years. Following his military career, David went on to serve on the Colorado State Patrol, the Littleton Police Department and the Aurora Police Department. This part of his life was very important to David as he talked often about his policing adventures. David went on to start a construction career where he worked for three different companies, Winslow Construction, Sema Construction, and finally Flatiron Construction.
David was blessed with a wonderful family. His first wife was Arlene Wilkins. They had two children, Debbie and David. Later in life, David married Judy Luppens who had two children, Jennifer and Jeffrey.
David loved all animals, horses, dogs, cats, even birds. There were times when we wondered if he could talk to animals. David also loved to dance, and he was a great dancer. He and Judy had many wonderful years of Square Dancing, Round Dancing, and just about all dancing. It was truly fun to watch them dance. When David was in the AltaVita Memory Care Center he was also seen dancing to familiar music with his walker and being cheered on by the residents.
David leaves behind his wife and partner of more than 46 years, Judith E. Luppens, daughter Debbie Knopf (Cary); son David Huntley II (Heidi), grandchildren Caryn Morphis, David Knopf, Reba Kosorok, David Huntley III, and Brittany Wittig; great grandchildren Alliana Morphis, Kinslee Kosorok, Rylynn Kosorok, Austin Huntley, Aubrey Huntley, Faith Wittig, and Conner Wittig, stepchildren Jennifer Mahoney and Jeffery Luppens; step-grandchildren Alexandra Mahoney, Madison Mahoney, Brandon Luppens and Kaylee Lathrop, step great-grandchild Ryder Lathrop, and a sister, Robin.
David was laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado on Wednesday, November 2, 2022. Fond memories and condolences may be shared at www.ahlbergfuneralchapel.com
