David was born April 22, 1937, to George and Clara (Moore) Horn. He was raised and educated in Longmont, Colorado.
David joined the U.S. Navy in October 1954, where he served aboard the U.S.S. Jupiter. During his tour in the Navy, he visited numerous ports of call including Japan, China, and the Philippines, just to name a few. After being Honorably Discharged in April 1958, he returned home to Longmont. David proudly served his country and enjoyed sharing his many memories during his tour of duty.
He married Virginia Staffieri in 1958. They were blessed with one son, Michael.
David worked 39 years at Longmont Memorial, retiring in 1998. He learned the trade of monument engraving at the early age of 16. He enjoyed this type of work, giving careful attention to details. After retiring, he continued doing monument engraving and stone signs from his shop at home.
David married Bonnie Unterseher on June 30, 1967. Along with their careers, they raised chickens, a milking cow or two, as well as planting and growing large vegetable gardens. In their spare time they enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time with family.
David’s hobby was buying and restoring vintage cars, traveling to swap meets, and buying and selling car parts. He enjoyed attending car shows; often times displaying his classic cars and receiving trophies.
David is survived by his wife, Bonnie; his son, Michael; two grandchildren, Michael and Amanda; three great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Ann Scarbrough; sister-in-law, Betty Lou Horn; and many nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents George and Clara Horn; one brother, Bill Horn; one sister and brother-in-law, Dean and Emma Jean Brown; brother-in-law, Lenos Scarbrough and daughter-in-law, Susan Horn.
A celebration of David’s life will be held 1pm, Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at Howe Mortuary Chapel.
The service will be livestreamed for the public to view. A link will be provided at a later date.
In lieu of flowers/memorials, the family requests donations be made to the Salvation Army in David Horn’s name.
