Dale Arnette Johnson, 73, of Berthoud, passed away April 18, 2017, surrounded by his loving family.He was born January 9, 1944, in Longmont to Everette and Arlene (Anderson) Johnson. Dale was raised on the family farm in Hygiene. He attended Hygiene Elementary school and graduated from Longmont High School class of 1962 where he earned a letter as a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA).On June 21, 1964, at the Hygiene United Methodist Church he married the love of his life, Janis Miracle.Dale had a long but prosperous career in farming, beginning in 1964, on the same farm in Hygiene that had been farmed by his grandfather, Henry and his father, Everette. He moved to Prospect Valley in 1972 and with the help of his wife and three children, he farmed there until 1986. Dale returned to Berthoud where he worked as a mechanic for Longmont Farm Supply, Adam Dairy Farm, and retired from the Colorado Department of Transportation.He was a proud member of the Hygiene United Methodist Church, where he served on the Church Board of Directors. Dale was also a member of the Hygiene Volunteer Fire Department, having been perhaps the youngest to join at the age of 16. In Prospect Valley he served on the Co-op Board of Directors where he was selected as a delegate to travel to Washington DC in order to advocate for fair farm prices and was selected many times as a high 10 beet grower.Throughout his life Dale loved to work with his hands. In the past six years he had taken up woodworking, not only to keep his hands busy but as a wonderful form of therapy. He lovingly made countless gifts for his family and friends inside his self-proclaimed woodworking shop.Dale is remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Delmer Johnson.Dale is survived by his wife Janis, three children, Christina Gettman (John), Wesley Johnson (Paula) and Theodore Johnson, four grandchildren, Zachery Gettman (Ashley), Austin Johnson, Ashley Johnson Pigg (Aaron) and Laura Gettman, six great grandchildren, Aylee, Avery, Logan, Sadie, Gentry and Lilly, and two sisters, Faye Johnson and Joyce Davies (Chuck).Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00pm, Sunday, April 23, 2017 at the Ahlberg Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be 10:30am, Monday April 24, 2017, at Hygiene United Methodist Church. Interment at Longmont Mountain View Cemetery.
