Cindy K. (Nielsen) Smith, age 75, of Johnstown, Colorado, passed away in Aurora, Colorado, on February 14, 2024. Cindy was born in Atlantic, Iowa on March 6, 1948, to Gladys (Larsen) Nielsen and Harley Nielsen. She lived on the family farm just north of Atlantic until she was 8 years old, then moved to Kirkman, Iowa. She lived in Defiance, Iowa for a short time before moving to Harlan, Iowa. She attended IKM (Irwin, Kirkman, Manilla) High School. She continued her education at Medical Records College in Omaha, Nebraska.
Cindy married Robert Smith on June 27, 1970 in Harlan, Iowa. Together they had 2 children, Chris Smith of Longmont, Colorado and Rachel Smith of Johnstown, Colorado. Cindy moved from Harlan to Longmont in August of 1980 before settling in Johnstown in 2004.
She worked as a medical coder for a number of different hospitals until she retired in October of 2020. She enjoyed participating in camping, golfing, GTO cars shows, being with her family and going out to dinner with friends. Cindy was very passionate about the 1966 GTO that her and Bob had and was a proud member of the Northern Colorado GTO Association and the National GTO Association. While in Harlan, she was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and became a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church after moving to Longmont.
Cindy is survived by her children, Chris and his wife Wendy Smith and Rachel Smith, her brother Phil and his wife Nancy Nielsen of Kirkman, Iowa, sister-in-law Marjorie and her husband John Benge, grandson Adam Smith of Longmont and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was proceeded in death by her husband Robert Smith, father Harley Nielsen, and mother Gladys Nielsen.
Burial and Celebration of Life will take place at a date to be announced.
