Cherie was born in Boulder, Colorado on September 17, 1949 to Martha (Phillips) and George Poor. She grew up in Boulder and graduated from Boulder High School in 1969. In 1995, she earned her BS in Business Administration. She also attended numerous seminars and completed courses in computer software, writing enhancement, interpersonal communication, and time management.
Cherie was a hardworking woman who took pride in everything she did. She worked for Valley Lab, Inc. from 1988 until the time of her retirement. She was active in her community and served in many capacities on the Farmers Ditch Board, was a Board Member of the Colorado Therapeutic Riding Center, a National Spokeswoman for the Professional Women’s Rodeo Association for four years and a member of the Grange Association for 35 years.
Cherie was a cowgirl at heart and her true passion was rodeo. Her pursuit of this passion led her to many championships and awards such as the 1982 CWPRA Permit Champion, 1983 WPRA All Girl Rodeo Rookie, 1984 CWPRA Steer Decorating Champion, 1984 WPRA World Champion Team Roper, and 1985 CWPRA Team Roping, Breakaway, and All Around Champion. In 1986, Cherie entered the Cowgirl Hall of Fame, was the Hall of Fame All Around Champion, and won the 2nd Annual Ten Gallon Heart Award. Cherie became the LOTRA Champion Heeler in the Ladies Division, and in 2007 the LOTRA Champion Heeler. Cherie was proud of these accomplishments and many, many others during her time in rodeo.
Cherie was preceded in death by her mother and father, and by her favorite horse, the infamous Walt. She leaves behind a son, Mike Berthod (Liz) and a daughter, Christie Berthod Baldridge; grandchildren, Sadie Clark (Zeb) and Ashlyn Baldridge; and great-grandchildren, Quinton, Emberly, & Kash Clark; as well as many loving friends.
A Celebration of Cherie’s Life was held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at Ahlberg Funeral Chapel in Longmont, Colorado.
