Bill Wilkinson, age 75, of Longmont, Colorado passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024. Bill was born at an early age in Granite City, Illinois on February 16, 1949. He was the youngest of eight children.
He graduated from Collinsville High School in Collinsville, Illinois in 1967. In 1974 he received a bachelor of music education from John Brown University in Siloam Springs, Arkansas. He graduated “Lawdy How Come” as “awarded” by his professors. While at JBU he had a full scholarship on trumpet performance for traveling with a group called The Sound Generation (All the good names were taken at the time). The “Sounds” performed for celebrities and for President Nixon in 1970.
His bands have received many awards and recognitions over his fifty year career. He started the Skyline Jazz Festival in 1979, and the Longmont All Star Jazz Band in the summer of 2001. He also performed Taps for multiple Police events and for the Boulder Boulder.
Mr. Wilkinson married his college sweetheart, Beth, in 1971. They have 3 beautiful children, Summer, Megan, and Seth, and 3 beautiful grandchildren Madeline, Emma and Jackson (No ugly ones). Their spouses and significant others are: Jason Pitts, Jason Givvin and Brittny Palan.
He is further survived by his three sisters: Betty Berger, Myra Poss and Ruth Lockhart.
Bill has played in various praise and worship bands. His most recent was New Creation Church. He loved watching the Rockies, cheering on the Buffs, wood working, home improvement projects and having a nice cup of coffee with friends. His main focus was spending time with and cultivating his family. He always put his best foot forward and worked hard at everything he did. We will always remember him and his legacy through all of the lovely furniture he has built for us, and his amazing stories and jokes.
Cremation is entrusted to Howe Mortuary & Crematory of Longmont, Colorado.
