Bev was born January 9, 1942 in Denver, Colorado. She was one of seven children born to Ira and Clara Daharsh. Jean, as she was called in her youth, spend her early years in rural Elbert County in Colorado since her parents were dry land farmers. Her first school was one room with just four other students. Due to the drought of the 1950s, the family left Elbert and her dad took a job working for a 2000-acre ranch in Woodland Park, Colorado. She graduated from Woodland Park High School in 1959. After high school, she attended one year of college in Pueblo before her family moved to Longmont in 1960.
Bev met the love of her life, Richard Loper, on a blind date. They were married on October 3, 1970 and stayed happily so until the time of her passing. They purchased an acreage in Hygiene, Colorado and lived here together for 50 years. Bev and Richard welcomed two beautiful daughters, Jenney and Andrea. Bev worked for a bank in Boulder and learned how to expertly balance checkbooks. She had for worked for 11 years before resigning in her second year of marriage. She dedicated herself to homemaking and always being there for her family. Her greatest priority was raising her children to know Jesus and have a personal relationship with him.
Bev was a woman of great faith. She was raised in the Plymouth Brethren Assemblies and for most of her adult life she attended Baptist Churches. She was most recently a member of Calvary Foothills Baptist Church. Throughout her life, Bev attended various Bible studies and Christian women’s organizations. She helped with the band boosters and Miss Teen Colorado to support her daughter’s interests.
Bev loved the gospel and she loved to sing, both at home and at church. She had a love of music that was passed down in her family; from singing the Doxology before holiday meals, trios with her sisters in church, or car ride singalongs to pass the time. She ensured that her daughters played instruments, as well. Bev was a great cook. She loved finding and trying new recipes and collecting cookbooks. In her last years, she spent hours cutting out recipes from magazines and organizing them in index files. Bev also crocheted doilies for family and friends, and made homemade dresses and Halloween costumes for her little girls. She was also very compassionate to those who were hurting around her and sent countless cards and notes letting them know they were loved and to look to Jesus for strength.
Bev was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother, and doting grandmother. She was loved and she will be dearly missed.
