Allan R. Martin, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully at age 90 surrounded by family May 05, 2023. He was born October 1, 1932, in Syracuse, New York, to Helen (West) and Allan Martin.
Allan enlisted in the Air Force following graduation from Central High School. His military service took him to Denver, Colorado, where he met the love of his life, Angela Madge Brown. They were married in 1953. Allan delighted in telling about being an extra during the Lowry Air Force Base filming of The Glenn Miller Story with James Stewart. While stationed at Castle Air Force Base in California they began their family with the birth of their son Michael.
With an honorable discharge in 1957, Allan and Angela returned to Syracuse where Allan resumed his career in telephony with Western Electric. After retiring from Verizon Allan and Angela made their home in South Carolina. In 2020 they moved to Colorado to be near their children.
Allan enjoyed traveling the world with Angela. He played golf and devoted time to volunteer service. During his 26 years as president of the Grand Strand chapter of the AT&T Pioneers philanthropic organization he supported many childrens’ causes. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, maintained membership in the American Legion, was active in the Hibernians and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi, Longmont.
Survivors include his loving wife Angela of Longmont; sisters, Norma Howard of Pulaski, NY, Sandy (Lynne) Simmons of Fort Lauderdale, FL, several nieces and nephews, three children: Michael (Bethany) Martin of Fort Collins, CO, Laurie (Tim) Carr of Boulder, CO, Diana (Story) Leavesley of Longmont, CO. He is also survived by grandchildren Kimberly (Mitch Johnson) Martin and Brooke Lynne Martin, Tatiana and Taylor Martin. Great-grandchildren Marius, Montae, and Mavarro.
Allan is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Dick Howard.
In lieu of flowers, donations honoring Allan’s memory can be made to the wonderfully caring team at Tru Community Hospice https://www.trucare.org/. A private service will be held at Howe Mortuary at a later date.
