Willie Mae Carter, known as Billie to her family and friends and “G. G.” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a loving and devoted Sister, Wife, Mother, Grandmother and Friend. She was born in Gans, Oklahoma on February 24, 1917 and passed away on December 16, 2011.
She had seven brothers and sisters that she helped raise. Willie Mae married her late husband, William Harvey Carter in June 1944 and moved from Oklahoma to Long Beach, California where they raised their two sons. Willie Mae retired from Sears Roebuck & Co. in 1970. She later moved to San Diego County and was a resident of Fairwinds Retirement Community and a member of the United Methodist Church of Vista. Willie Mae was very active in Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, thoroughly enjoyed square dancing and more recently became known for her competitive Bingo and Wii Bowling skills. She often showed her love to friends and family through quilting and crocheting gifts.
Willie Mae is survived by her sister Lorece, her son Robert and his wife Sandee, her son Jerry and his wife Juda, and her five Grandchildren: Deborah Hunt, David Carter, Carrie Rickmond, Elizabeth Carter and William Carter III. She is also survived by her seven Great-Grandchildren: Dempsey and Clara Hunt, Emery and Eden Carter and Ben, Asher and Ayla Rickmond. The family held a private graveside service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Cypress, California.

Memorial Services followed by a Reception will be held at the United Methodist Church of Vista, 490 South Melrose Drive, in Vista on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
