Janet Ann Wilmore Hammond, was born November 2, 1962, in New Orleans, Louisiana. Raised in a Christian home in Kenner, Louisiana, Janet accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She attended St. Michael Baptist Church where she was baptized. She was the fourth of six children born to Ruby Smith and Melvin Wilmore Sr. Janet was educated in the Jefferson Parish school system, graduating from Bonnabel High School.
On March 28, 1987, Janet married her childhood sweetheart, Jonathan Hammond, Sr. A relationship that span for over 36 years. Of this union three children were born, Jonathan Jr., Jonas and Jalyn. In late 1987 Jonathan and Janet moved their family to California. After moving to California, Janet became a member to the Second Benevolent Baptist Church, under the direction of the Pastors H. Sims Jr. & Maurice Kelly. At the time of her death the Hammond family resided in Compton, California for over 21 years.
For the past 15 years Janet worked as a Mentor and Caregiver for disabled individuals. She was employed by The Mentor Network. Janet loved her work and referred to her patients as her clients, taking extra care and attending to their needs.
Janet was a loving, kind, and compassionate person, who never complained. She was family oriented, hard working, and very considerate of others. She accepted all with open arms as well as welcoming everyone into her home and loved everyone equally. Her positive attitude and strong personality kept all her loved ones together. Janet has always been a great supporter, good listener, and also gave good advice. She was a woman of God whom had the ability to lift Spirits up. Janet was a faithful wife, a loving mother, grandmother, as well as an awesome friend who you could call upon for anything.
Janet’s memories will be cherished by her surviving family; husband Jonathan Sr., two sons, Jonathan Jr. and Jonas, with her only daughter Jalyn. Along with one grandson Jonathan III and daughter-in-law Tameka. Janet will be missed dearly by her siblings, brother Melvin Wilmore Jr. (Sylvia), along with sisters, Dinah Caldwell, Victoria Jackson, Terria Powell, Wendy and Pamela Wilmore, father Melvin Wilmore Sr. (Ella), Sisters-in-laws, Olivia Richard (Edward) and Nadine Hammond, brother-in-law Leroy Hammond; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Upon leaving her loved ones behind, Janet was called home to be with the Lord and her late loved ones, Mother Ruby Wilmore, sister Zina Horne, Grandmother Ethel Smith, Great Grandparents Willie & Pauline Armour and nephew Lintroy Wilmore, along with other relatives and friends.
