Donald Dean Phillips, son of Rev. Herschel and Opal Phillips, went to meet Jesus in glory on April 24, 2012. Don Phillips was born in Clark, MO on December 27, 1931. In passing, he leaves behind his older brother, Dale Phillips of Yorba Linda and his younger sister, Darlene Chambers of Nixa, MO to join his only daughter, Lori Kathleen Phillips in heaven who passed away in 1962. He carried that sorrow with him until his last day of life on earth. Especially dear to Uncle Don were his four nieces, Suzann Douthwright, Margie Tucker, Lori Phillips and Julie Woolsey. Rev. Danny Dean Chambers, his only nephew, resides in Tennessee. His great-nephews and nieces, Michael Douthwright, Patrick Tucker, Reel and Saylor Woolsey had a special place in Don's life. Don attended Poly High School where he graduated in 1949. He worked at Douglas Aircraft in Long Beach before he enlisted in the Army to serve his country in the Korean War. He retired in 1987 from Southern California Edison of Huntington Beach after a career of over 30 years, after which he took up golf, which he enjoyed with his brother and special friends. He was very active in his community and a member of the Elks Club, Century Club, Long Beach City College Foundation, the 24-hour Fitness Club, Korean Veteran's Association and Men's Club at David Baker Golf Course. An avid sports fan, he supported Poly High School, Edison High School, Long Beach City College, Long Beach State and an enthusiastic USC fan. Don Phillips will be missed in this life, but we all look forward to reuniting with him at the feet of our Savior for eternity. Services will be held at the Family Church formally known as Guiding Light Tabernacle at 2094 Cherry Ave. in Signal Hill at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 3, 2011. All are welcome to celebrate Don's life.
