1925-2010
Anthony Rota was born in Staten Island, New York on December 20, 1925. The youngest of six children, “Tony” learned the importance of family early. His loyalty, enthusiasm, and tenacious work-ethic were traits instilled in him by his mother Netty and father John. In the years to follow, Mr. Rota developed a sense of patriotism, which became clear on his eighteenth birthday when he enlisted in the U.S. Army. It was in Europe during World War II, where Tony displayed tremendous courage which earned him the Bronze Star. After the war, Mr. Rota met Eleanor Mangravito, and they quickly fell in love. Before long, the Rotas added three children to their family, and in 1959 they decided to make Lakewood, CA their home. After starting out as a butcher, Mr. Rota worked in the Long Beach area as a businessman, owning appliance and furniture stores for over 30 years. He retired shortly after his 70th birthday and lived with Eleanor and their “little pal” Holly until his death. Tony is survived by his wife of over 62 years, daughters Eleanor and Linda, son Anthony, six grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and countless friends and extended family. He will be greatly missed.
