McMullen, Joan – Our dear mother, Joan, passed away earlier this week in the company of family and caregivers at Earls Court Village at the age of 93. A feisty, indomitable and much-loved mother and grandmother, mom was a war bride from Bacup, England who served in the British Army before marrying a Canadian soldier and moving here.
Mom worked tirelessly throughout her life, caring for children and grandchildren well into her seventies and eighties. She met life’s many challenges with courage and resilience and was loved and respected by her family and others who knew her.
Joan was pre-deceased by our father, William McMullen, in 1989. She is survived by five children and their spouses (Peter McMullen, Karen McMullen, Janice Woloshyn and husband Peter, David McMullen and wife Cherylanne, Debra Pond and husband Peter), by six grandchildren and their spouses (Tracy Woloshyn, Justin McMullen and wife Amy, Courtney McMullen and husband Geoffrey, Chris Leaning and wife Deanna, and Kayleigh and Laura Pond) and by five great-grandchildren (Liam, Beatrice, Chase, Matthew and Oliver).
Our family wishes to thank the kind and caring third floor staff at Earls Court for their patience, compassion and good humour in caring for mom this past year. Cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held later this week. Condolences are welcome at www.needhamfuneralhome.com
