Barry and I shared many happy times together (of course, he organized most of them.) His step daughter Kathy shared in many of his day trips, plays, meals out and London Knight Hockey games.

Often while out, we'd be stopped by former teachers or students, who would remember their time in his classrooms. He always tried to bring humor to a boring lesson or somehow he'd lighten up the day with his humor. He was very proud of his teaching years and always talked fondly of his students and fellow teachers, especially those that gathered for a few, quick bridge games ( when they probably should have been doing something else. )He so enjoyed the year, he exchanged places with another teacher in Australia and took his family on that exciting trip of a life time.

He was always so proud of all his family members and often talked of the fun (sometimes difficult) times that comes with being part of a big, active and fun loving family. He was so proud that he was never without a job and was willing to try anything. 
He sure looked forward to those challenging golf games with his brothers Murray and Jack. Of course, brotherly love took a back seat, as far as golf is concern.

Likewise, with Bridge, he looked forward to a good challenge. Poor Doug. He was forever looking to improved his games and get those few extra Gold Master points.

London Knight hockey games were never boring with Barry around. Just ask poor Terry, who had the reserved season seat beside him. If he could have, Barry would have put on his skates, jump onto Center Ice and show them how to play hockey but instead he had to scream at those #$%&@ so called Hunter brothers and coaches. No one was safe seating next to him.
So he had to show his Huff and Puff buddies how to play instead, I'm sure.
My great grandson Dustin , now a skilled hockey player himself, said that it was Barry, who got him interested in hockey.

Barry always enjoyed his Sunday mornings at Colborne Street United Church. But I'm sure if Rev. David Carrothers ( who always had wonderful, thoughtful sermons ) moved elsewhere, Barry would have move along with him.

His final days, were made so much easier with those caring doctors and nurses but especially the love and concern of his sisters Helen, Alliene and his son Peter. Peter was God sent for sure. I have no idea what Barry would have done without Peter by his side, his right hand man, his link with the outside world. Thanks Peter for being there, for holding his hand through everything.

But Barry is now finally at rest. He had a long, fun filled life bubbling over with great family, loved ones, so many memories and those, bump into, how are you doing friends. 

Barry faced each day as a new day of challenges, places to go, people to see, wrongs to right, things to learn.
 
For sure, he walked ( or often ran ) to the beat of a different drum in life but he was a fighter...right to the end.

I'm sure Our Saviour said, "Well done, my good and faithful servant, come and rest, you have deserved it."

To all the Thompson family,
I was very sorry to hear of Barry's passing.  I was pleased that he was able to attend the 150th in Parkhill with the rest of you as I had not seen him or you for many years.  Our prayers are with you all at this time.

I always remember the card games upstairs at the nursing home for the family get together s. Barry loved to play and, WIN.
