Beloved husband of Michelle (Varty) Bowman for 42 years. Loving father of Jessalyn Mann and Lindsey (Ryan) O’Connor. Cherished grandfather of Carleigh and Chace Mann and soon to be baby O’Connor. Dear sister of Sandy (Jerry) Cairo and the late Nancy Bowman. Dearest uncle, great uncle and great-great uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Bill joined the Detroit Police Academy in 1972 where he served on the force until he retired in 1990. He was a jack of all trades and had many titles throughout his life. He worked for the Detroit Yacht Club for numerous years as assistant manager, Interim General Manager, Harbor Master, Head of Security and he was always the “go to guy”. He was also a small business owner of Hobo’s bar in Hamtramck and Deputy Sherriff of Gladwin, Michigan, where he was also Vice President of crime stoppers. This is how he spent most of his “retired years”. He absolutely loved his work and it was a huge part of who he was.
Work and family were the most important things to Bill. He loved his family and was incredibly proud of his daughters and grandchildren. He adored being a grandfather. He was happiest at his lake house in Gladwin where he spent a lot of time out on the water on his boat with the people he loved. He was a great story teller and just loved to make people laugh. Bill was the type of person to always be there when you needed him. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
