Veronica Dewey, age 92, of Bloomfield Township, Michigan passed away on Friday, November 3, 2023. She was born June 30, 1931 in Hong Kong. She was the youngest of eleven siblings. Beloved mother of Mark (Amy) Dewey, late Eric (Susan) Dewey, and Margo (Earl) Dewey-Watkins. Proud grandmother of Ryan Dewey, Ross Dewey, and Gabrielle Watkins. Dear great-grandmother of Elizabeth "Ellie".
Veronica held two Master's degrees in French and Spanish. She spoke four languages, including Chinese, French, Spanish, and English. She attended Marygrove College at 18 years old and achieved her first Bachelor's degree from there. She obtained her Master's degree in French in Paris, France and her Master's degree in Spanish in Spain.
Veronica was a world traveler, she's visited more than twelve countries. She often led a group of Brother Rice and Marion students to Europe during the summer vacations in the 1980s/1990s. Her favorite place in the world was Paris, and she loved the French language most of all.
Veronica taught at Brother Rice High School and Marion High School in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan for more than 40 years. She was honored in the Brother Rice Hall of Fame. Hundreds of students have praised her diligence in making sure they learned the French and Spanish languages correctly. Many students credit her for achieving their goals and careers thanks to her life coaching, both in high school and after.
Veronica originally came to the United States to become an artist for Walt Disney. She was an exceptional artist and could draw anything free-hand. She also was passionate about painting. She was an avid reader, especially of French books.
Veronica was extremely faithful and always put God first. She was a parishioner of St. Hugo Church in Bloomfield Hills, where she was also an usher for over ten years.
A visitation will be held Thursday, November 16, from 3:00-7:00pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48152, with a scripture service at 6:30pm. An in state period will be held the following day, Friday, November 17, at St. Edith Catholic Church, 15089 Newburgh Rd., Livonia, MI 48154, at 10:30am, followed by a funeral mass beginning at 11:00am. She will be laid to rest at Parkview Memorial Cemetery.
