He graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit and served honorably in the U.S. Army as a Military Policeman. Bob spent his 35-year career as a supervisor at General Motors' Fisher Body Plant in Livonia.
Affectionately known as "O'Bob" by those who knew him best - a nickname he loved and laughed at, derived from his wife calling on him to do something. He slightly modified the nickname as a nod to his proud Irish heritage. He found silly and utter joy in the nickname - especially when his grandchildren, children and those closest to him used it for fun and with laughter.
Survived by Elaine, his bride of 67 years (first date: "From Here To Eternity" in 1953; engaged on Valentine's Day 1954); daughter Evon (Carl) Buckley and son, Todd Robert (Sandy) Goyer. He was the proud grandfather of the late Ryan, Philip Robert, Hope, Caitlin, and Lauren.
Bob was strong, devoted and a rock … the definition of what a husband and father should be. He deeply missed so many loving relatives and friends who passed before him in recent years. In lieu of flowers, Bob would have appreciated peace, a smile at a friend or neighbor, and consideration of a contribution to Angela Hospice, 14100 Newburgh Rd, Livonia, MI 48154 (www.angelahospice.org) or the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Floor 17, Chicago, IL 60601 (www.alz.org).
