Robert D. Setlak, born July 27, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, to Jacob and Olga (Woch) Setlak, passed away on October 1, 2024, at the age of 78 surrounded by his loved ones. Robert served his country honorably in the United States Army, where he earned the Sharpshooter Medal for his skills.
On August 3, 1968, Robert married the love of his life, MaryAnn Piatek. Together they built a beautiful life, blessed with two children. Robert was a dedicated employee of Ford Motor Company, working at the Livonia Transmission Plant for many years. Beyond his work, he had a passion for fishing and was an avid angler who cherished every chance he had to be on the water, including memorable salmon fishing trips.
A man of many talents, Robert was known for his ability to fix just about anything, if he couldn’t fix it, it just wasn’t fixable. He was a loving and creative Papa, making special gifts for his grandchildren like custom Minecraft swords, his grandchildren were the light of his life. He was a hands-on and devoted "Papa" who took pride in being involved in their lives.
Robert leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, MaryAnn; his two children, Matthew (Kristen) Setlak and Jackie (Ron) Genaw; and his four cherished grandchildren, Cameron, Paige, Kaemon, and Chloe. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Sandy Setlak. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Richard Setlak.
Visitation for Robert will be held on Friday, October 4, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan. Military honors and a funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM at the same location.
Robert's memory will live on through the love he shared with his family, his many talents, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
