Ralph “Jim” Schwalm, age 83, after a long battle with cancer, passed away peacefully with his wife and children by his side. Ralph was born on September 22, 1933 to Ralph O. and Stella (Gorak) Schwalm. He was the loving husband of 57 years to Theresa A. whom he married on May 30, 1959 at St. Norbert Church in Inkster, Michigan. Devoted father to James, Theresa (Steve), Colleen (Tom), Mary (Pete). Cherished Grandfather of 14, great-grandfather of 6. Step grandfather of 2 and step great-grandfather of 4. Dearest brother of Barbara (Dave). He was also a beloved Brother-in-law and Uncle to many Nieces and Nephews.
Ralph served his country in the Navy and then worked at the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for over 35 years. In his life he was active with the Knights of Columbus as former Deputy Grand Knight and also as cook and caterer. He enjoyed decorating wedding cakes, including those of his children. Ralph always stressed the importance of love and dedication to family. He loved travelling throughout Michigan with his wife and children and was known for his all-day campfires. He also enjoyed going out west in his and Theresa’s motor home to visit family, and made it a priority to go to as many of his grandchildren’s events that he could. His love, kindness, sense of humor, ribs, and baked goods will be greatly missed.
Visitation Wednesday 2-9 p.m. at Harry J. Will Funeral Home 37000 Six Mile Rd. in Livonia. Rosary 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral Thursday, in state 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church 11441 Hubbard in Livonia. Interment Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery.
