I did not know Phil a very long time, but his posiive attitude and demeanor always left me in a better place each time we spoke. He will be missed. 

Phil was not only my brother-in-law, he was a cherished part of our family for over 21 years.  We loved him for so very many reasons.  He loved his family, was always ready to help others, had a wonderful sense of humor, went out of his way to drop you an email or text just to show you something you might be interested in.  We have so many wonderful experiences and memories which we will hold dear.  One of our last special memories was his 50th Surprise Birthday party the end of September.   We are heart broken for his loss and extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Melissa, children, Jacob, Grace, & Luke and to his parents, brother and other family members.

I worked with Phil at IDN for about 2 year's and he was always having  fun, while working.  When he left the company, for his next venture, Phil went out of his way to say good bye to each of us.
He got to know everyone that crossed his path, in a positive and pleasant way.

I send much love to Phil's family during this difficult time.  I am thankful to have spent this Thanksgiving with him, as well as being at the hospital when he passed.  As Phil's only bother-in-law, I was able to see what enormous sacrifices he made for "love" of his family.  Phil valiantly battled everything from Leukemia to constant job challenges, always putting his family before himself.  Only very recently did I see the magnitude and scope of his sacrifices.   I find the following verse a fitting last tribute to a good and honorable man,  good and honorable beyond measure…. most assuredly.         
Romans 13:7 "Give to everyone what you owe them: If you owe taxes, pay taxes; if revenue, then revenue; if respect, then respect; if honor, then honor."

"Semper Fidelis" Phil, you knew it and showed…. always.

His memories will live on. I remember meeting Phil and his family at Church for the very first time a number of  years ago, and they welcomed my wife and I with open arms. Phil has this contagious smile that drawed you into him like a magnet. My wife and I had dinner and caught a movie at their home once, and we had so much fun sharing our lives with theirs.  will be remembered with so much Love. I was lucky enough to be his Sister-in-Law. He would always have dinner with my husband and I when he traveled to St. Louis, Missouri on business, and he was always full of wonderful stories, most of his love of his family. He was a Superhero of a father, so incredibly supportive and proud of his beautiful kids. Phil would help anybody who ever even seemed slightly in need of it, truly selfless, a wonderful example of a Man. My heart is breaking for his entire family, we pray for your peace.

Dear Melissa, Jake, Grace and Luke,
You are all such special people!Your family is one of the nicest I ever knew at Grandview and one that I always think of with love.  Phil was a wonderful man and always so pleasant and helpful to me as a principal. 

One of the many happy memories I have of him is on the day of my Grandview surprise retirement party. I was just  asked to come to school at a specific time and I didn't know anything else, so I was a little nervous! As I drove down Louise St to  get to school, there was Phil standing in the middle of the street with a big smile and telling me that he would take my car and park it for me.  Then, as the gentleman he always was, he escorted me to the playground where I was greeted by tons of Grandview families!  It turned out to be a lovely afternoon, which I of course knew it would be, but I will always treasure his smile being the first I  saw on that special occasion. 

Phil was always someone I knew I could count on to share a happy occasion, to help fix a problem, and to support his children and all of the kids at Grandview.  I will always think of him and all of you with joy and love.  ❤

Phil was an amazingly funny and nice man. We first really got to know phil when our kids were in Elementary school together. His Luke and our Emily both got chosen to sleep over in the Grandview library. What a fun night. My husband Harry and Phil really hit it off. They both are fun loving guys. Then we would see Phil through the years always smiling at school functions. Then we were at a wedding in Chelsea this year and after the wedding my Husband and I decided to stop at this karaoke bar in Chelsea which only had about 5 cars in the parking lot.  So we went in and guess who was there Phil and his Brother celebrating a little more after  Phil’s  surprise 50th birthday party. So we got to celebrate Phil’s 50th birthday with him as well. That was a blessing. Phil we will Miss you but we know you are in Heaven and we will see you again. 🙏🏻

So shocked to see this post on FB. We were just talking about him the other day to someone. Always a smile on his face and willing to help anyone and everyone. Last time I saw him was his daughters volleyball game chatting away with everyone. My heart goes out to the Patterson family.

Phil was a very open, loving, caring and sharing man. He always had a joke for you, but would also do anything that was needed. Our boys have been friend for a long time and we have had many fun time together. I will miss him terribly. I will pray for Melisa, Jake, Grace and  Luke. As hard as it seem he is with the lord and I know you all know what that means. Love you very much and am always here.

We are deeply shocked at the horrific and tragic  news of Phil’s passing.  There was never a time we saw Phil when he wasn’t smiling. We would frequently run into him at Costco in the TV section.  He was such a caring and loving person; always willing to lend a hand when he saw someone in need. I cannot imagine how difficult this tragedy is for the Patterson family. Phil has been a friend of our family since our children’s preschool days. He will most certainly be missed by all of us!

Phil charmed me slowly. He won me over...We met at a library and we were married on the grounds of a light house. We were so different in many ways and that's what brought us together. That and his smile. He always, as a husband, tried very hard to listen. It wasn't always easy for him. We enjoyed traveling together to Europe for what he called our "prenuptial before we have kids trip", tropical places, up north...before kids. 

When Phil first got sight of our oldest, Jacob, his lip quivered. When our three came into the world, he cut the cords. He stumbled over himself to help when I was trying to care for three little ones.  Phil couldn't get enough of Jacob's stories, as Jacob has a lot of wonders and passions. He was a mix of entertained and bewildered by Jacob. He was  was enthralled with his only daughter. Grace simply knew his language and spoke into his life in a special way. As for Luke, our youngest, well they were the best of pals. Luke brought out the playful and fun side of Phil. What a blessing! He couldn't have been more thankful for our kids, he just couldn't. My husband coached, helped with scouts, carted them all around with me, and was just "there" for them in many ways. Our dog Lucky already seems a little off. Phil was the "fun" guy that got him running in dog circles. 

Phil had some rough roads in life, we had some. Life here on earth is not perfect, but we got through them. I prayed for my husbands salvation from the day I met him (23 years ago), as others did.  Phil actively started pursing the Lord this last year. How I will end this story is to simply convey, Phil is in heaven with his Lord and Savior.  That is a indescribable blessing beyond words.  The kids and I look forward to our reunion with him one day. This gives us great peace.  


Mr. Patterson was one of the greatest. He was like another dad to my sisters and I as he watched us all grow up. I remember so many memories of our families getting together to have bonfires or parties and such seeing as we lived 2 houses down from each other. It was an honor to know him and I will always remember his sarcastic jokes and how he always made us kids laugh.
