Nancy was born on February 5, 1960, the daughter of Herbert and Violet Ross, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her husband, George M. Neal Jr., and her son, Richard Raymond Neal. An expert linguist, Nancy taught Spanish at Stevenson Middle School in the Wayne Westland School District. She delighted in introducing her middle-schoolers to their first experience with a foreign language at the same time they learned more about the English language.
Nancy was a civic activist, especially on issues related to the Norwayne community where she resided. During her six year tenure on the Westland City Council, she was a fierce fighter for the interests of her constituents and had a keen eye for any misuse of taxpayers’ dollars.
After her retirement from teaching and public office, she spent summers in East Tawas, Michigan and winters in Mission, Texas, where she was known for “tooling around” in her beloved Corvette at an age when most are content to be in a rocking chair. Pursuant to her wishes, there will be no funeral services. She will be interred in a family plot at Parkview Cemetery in Livonia, Michigan.
Nancy would be pleased for any contributions in her name to a charity of your choice or to any of the following, which she has supported in the past and now by bequests: The American Cancer Society, the American Diabetes Association, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Angela Hospice of Livonia, Michigan, the Salvation Army, the Wounded Warrior Project, and the Cherokee Nation College resource Scholarship Fund.
