Michele Ann Siroky was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 23, 1970 and passed away peacefully on July 26, 2017 in Livonia, Michigan. She was the first daughter of Barbara and Bill McKenzie and loving sister to Jeff (Linda) McKenzie, Marla (Jason) Kepsel, Marti McKenzie and Zac McKenzie.
Michele met her husband Peter while visiting her brother Jeff at Michigan Tech University. They were married on May 4, 1996. When they bought their house in Livonia, many saw an older home. Michele and Pete, however, had a vision, and completed a massive renovation in 2002. Countless memories took place within their home.
Michele was a devoted mother of Alex, Kyle, Jack, McKenzie and Andrea. She was the true definition of "hockey mom", coordinating four different practice and game schedules. Michele's world revolved around her children.
Michele found a love for competitive swimming at a young age. She joined the Livonia Spartans Aquatic Club for year-round swimming and had great success. Swimming for Livonia Stevenson High School, she won state titles and broke team records. Michele earned an athletic scholarship to Michigan State University as a result of her swimming talent. She was a fantastic swim coach, mentoring and encouraging children in and out of the water. Over the course of 30 years, Michele coached at Meadowbrook Country Club, Livonia Spartans Aquatic Club, Stevenson High School and Burton Hollow Swim Club.
Michele had a natural ability of helping others. She chose a career in occupational therapy. She earned a Bachelor's Degree from Michigan State in 1992. She attended Wayne State University, living with her grandmother, Albena Kurpowic, and earned her Master's Degree in 1995. Michele began her career at St. Mary's Hospital, helping chemical-dependent patients. While she enjoyed her time there, she knew in her heart that she desired working with and helping children. She joined Livonia Public Schools in 2004 and worked within the district until 2012.
Michele was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2012. In 2015, she was also diagnosed with breast cancer. Through surgery, chemo and radiation treatments Michele successfully won the battle against the breast cancer. She continued to fight courageously against the brain cancer, being an inspiration to all who loved and knew her.
Michele was a kind, loving and devoted wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, granddaughter and niece. She was a loyal and respectful friend to may and will forever be known as a patient, generous and humorous person. The lives Michele touched are innumerable and she will be missed by those who had the privilege to know her.
Michele’s family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday July 30, 2017 from 2-8 pm, with a Scripture Service 7 pm, at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd. (east of Newburgh and I-275) in Livonia.
