

Maxine was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her children: Davene Sexton, Robert and Kathy Vargo, Ronald and Sheri Vargo, Kenneth and Jacqueline Vargo, and Roger Vargo. Her grandchildren, who brought her immense joy, include Kelly (John) Moore, William (Cassandra) Vargo, Elizabeth (Kyle) Vargo-Mayville, Sara (Brandon) Ohryn, Brandon (Adrian) Vargo, Stephanie (Trey) Krauss, Amanda (Joe) McCarty, Timothy Vargo, Trisha Vargo, Roger (Keysha) Vargo, Ayaan Vargo, and Imani (Marc) Vargo. She was a proud great-grandmother to Dwayne (Megan) Moore, Savannah Batchelor, Olivia Vargo, Elliana Vargo, Samuel Vargo, Kyla Mayville, Chloe Krauss, Harper Krauss, Lillian Vargo, Luna Vargo, Logan Vargo, Jade Ohryn, Devon McCarty, Aiden Charles, Tru Vargo, Ava Vargo, Jovan Jamison Jr., and X'mar Curry. Maxine also eagerly awaited the arrival of a great-great-grandbaby in 2025.
Maxine’s loving heart and devotion extended to her siblings, including her dear sisters Jeanette Leeming, Suzanne Brandreth, Virginia (Charles) Mounce, and her brother James Jr. (Beverly) Sexton. She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Russell Vargo, and her sister Kathlyn Dare, both of whom she holds forever in her heart.
Maxine’s spirituality was a cornerstone of her life, and she found deep comfort and connection as a member of Shadow of the Cross Lutheran Church. Above all, she cherished her family. Whether it was family gatherings, special milestones, or quiet moments, she found immeasurable joy in the presence of those she loved.
Her warmth, kindness, and unwavering love will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A funeral in state for Maxine will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Shadow of the Cross Lutheran Church, 20805 Middlebelt Road, Farmington Hills, Michigan, 48336. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM. A committal service followed by the burial will be taking place at 2:30 PM at Woodmere Cemetery, 9400 W Fort St, Detroit, MI 48209.
