I'm so sorry for your loss.  I got to work with Matt at Novi Middle School.  He was kind and fun and interested in getting to know me as a person, not just a colleague.  We had lots of chats that brightened my day.  The world will be a little less light without him.

To dear Kimberly, Shawn, Sue, Mike, Walker, Miranda and family:
I am sorry for the loss of Matt. I am sorry for your aching hearts. I am sorry for the unbearable sadness Matt’s passing has brought you. This is what I believe - you are probably feeling two powerful emotions – the endless love you have for Matt and the so very painful sorrow you feel because of that love. With the support of family and friends, and that which you give each other, I think you will find out how much you, yourselves, are loved. I hope this will carry you through your grief.
As Matt’s “Step Aunt” he and I had opportunities at family gatherings to talk about nearly everything. This, of course, was after embarrassing him by saying “Hello, handsome” and giving him an Auntie hug. Matt was a sensitive and thoughtful guy and really cared about people. I could see that. I enjoyed hearing his thoughts about life from his perspective. Matt helped me through my own grief, too. This is a gift he gave me, which I have always cherished, and do so even more now. Kimberly and Sue - I can only guess at how much anguish you are feeling and I want to take it away. I love you. All of you. 

Our Hearts are breaking for all of you.  🙏🏼 We have know Matt since he was a little boy. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. Love you Mark and Sue Smith 💔

Matt and I worked together for a few years around 2016. He’s a genuinely good person who always puts his best foot forward. He’s the co worker I’d go to to cheer up on a bad day. I’m saddened to see this news. Wishing peace for Kim and Sue.

Matt was always super helpful to our staff at the Middle School.  His office was next door to mine and he would always find the time to help with any tech problem we had.  He was professional, respectful, funny and became a small part of our hallway family here!

You were the first baby to be born from us 3 girls. You had so many people to love and cherish you. We called you “booter butt” because you used to scoot across the floor on your butt instead of crawling. You were the light of all of our lives! In your short life you have been through so much, having acute myeloid leukemia at 19 was the biggest challenge you had and never giving up.  And to think that you survived that nightmare was none other than a miracle. I just want to thank you for being my nephew and teaching me to never give up.

I was friends with Matt a long time ago.... Early 2000's.  I remember him as an incredibly warm and caring person. He had the best sense of humor and his laugh was contagious. I'm very sad to hear of his passing. My deepest condolences to his wife and family. 💙
