Mary Etta (Harrison) Gibson, 84, of Warren, MI went to her heavenly home on Tuesday, May 30, 2023 from heart failure after a long illness. A beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt, and devout Christian, Mary will be remembered for her true and abiding faith in Jesus, her Biblical scholarship, and especially the joy she provided others with her love, humor, and generosity. She was an expert ancestry historian and a formidable opponent playing family card and board games such as Rook, Farkle, and Scrabble to name a few. She loved to travel, especially to places where she discovered family history; she was an adored favored family matron who often brought extended family together. A gifted storyteller, her beautiful smile lit up a room and she attracted everyone to her presence as she shared family stories and history. Prior to retirement Mary was co-owner of Whirlmore Appliance and spent many years with other loved ones running the family business with honesty and integrity.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents Herman Landon and Sarah Alean (Durdin) Harrison of Camden, TN and her husband of 40 years, Charlie Cecil Gibson of Warren, MI, as well as a daughter Tamara Michelle Hagan of Utica, MI; her son John Thomas Gibson of Van Buren Twp, MI; her son-in-law Larry Joseph Hamblen and grandson and wife Brandon Charles and wife April Elaine Anders Hamblen Hamblen of Crestview, Florida.
Mary will be lovingly remembered by her children Patricia Hamblen of Westland MI; Charles (Laura) Gibson of Woodhaven, MI, son-in-law Joseph Hagan of Utica, MI, daughter-in-law Melanie (Cole) Gibson of Van Buren Township, MI as well as grandchildren Nicholas (Alisha) Hamblen, Nicole Safriet, Chelsea (Paul) Talbot, Britton (Arjun) Ganesan, Ashlyn Gibson, Zachary (Leah) Gibson, Sasha (Kyle) Opalech, Charles (Bailey) Gibson, Brett Michael Hagan, Shawn Hagan, and Taryn Hagan. Mary is also survived by 17 great grandchildren who loved her dearly and several nieces and nephews who adored her.
Mary’s legacy was chiefly reflected in her faith and her fruitful and fervent prayers for family and friends; her Bible opening pages reveal the following inscription reflecting her utmost wish for those reading it who loved her: “When I am gone don’t weep for me. I will be with the LORD. Just prepare and meet me there. Our earthly bodies are only a temporary dwelling place of the Spirit - 2 Corinthians 5:1.”
