Mark D. Ruark, age 54, of Westland, Michigan met Jesus face to face on Friday, May 3, 2024, from surgical complications. He was the loving husband of Amy for 32 years; beloved brother of Matt (Lori) and Becky (Tim Troin); cherished Uncle to Carmen Mata, Dylan Ruark, Caleb Mata, Reese Troin, and Peyton Troin.
Mark was preceded in death by his parents John and Juanita Ruark.
Mark spent his 33-year career at General Motors as a Controls and Robotics Engineer. He was one of the last employees accepted into the coveted GM Fellowship Program, earning his Master's Degree in Manufacturing Engineering from Northwestern University. Mark was also a proud 1993 graduate of the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, with Bachelor's Degrees in Aerospace Engineering and Mechanical Engineering. Mark graduated from Wayne Memorial High School, class of 1987.
Mark fought valiantly against renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer) for 13 years. Despite the challenges of treatment, he remained involved with his family, friends, church, and community. After his diagnosis, Mark trained for and completed two Free Press Marathons for World Vision.
Mark’s calm, gentle demeanor was not easily shaken. He cared about bringing peace to situations, which drew people to him. He was a man of conviction, principle, and grace. In all things Mark was generous beyond what anyone will know. It wasn’t the things Mark did as much as who he was.
Contributions in his memory may be directed to 2|42 Community Church or Saved by Zade (cat rescue), where he served as the transport for long-distance transfers to the rescue of those that he, his wife, and friends helped along the way.
A visitation will be held Friday, May 10th, for friends and family from 2:00pm-8:00pm at Harry J Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48152.
