Marilyn S. Dane, 88, beloved wife of James P. Dane, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2020 at St. Mary Mercy Hospital, Livonia. Marilyn was born on June 4, 1931, in Dayton, Ohio to Merle E. & Katherine Sucher, the first of their two children. Marilyn graduated from Western High School in Detroit. She met her husband while working for Standard Federal Savings and they married on November 3, 1951. Together they raised three children. Later, she continued her education at the University of Michigan where she earned her Bachelor of Arts. Marilyn then attended Oakland University and received her Master's degree in Education. She spent her 20-year career in the Plymouth-Canton School District teaching elementary and middle school. She loved to play bridge and attending her book club meetings. She also enjoyed spending her summers at their family home in Charlevoix.
In addition to her husband James, Marilyn is survived by Katherine (Daniel) Grooman, Bruce (Joanne) Dane, and James A. (Lori) Dane; brother, David (Karen) Sucher; grandchildren, Amy Grooman, David Grooman, Andrew Dane, Kara Dane, Luke Dane, James Alexander Dane, Nicholas Dane, Eric VandeVorde, Bethany VandeVorde, and Brad VandeVorde; great-grandchildren, Madison Friedsam and Everett Grooman. Sister-in-law, Marion (Bob) Brewer also survives.
Friends may visit on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. at Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 14175 Farmington Road, Livonia, Michigan 48154. Burial will be at Glen Eden Cemetery in Livonia.
Memorial contributions in Marilyn's name may be made to Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church.
