In 1967, Karen graduated from Flushing High School. After graduation, she continued her education at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI. While at Eastern, she met David Lutz and they fell in love. She was confirmed into the Lutheran faith in 1971, and on December 18, 1971 Karen and David married.
Karen is survived by her loving husband David of 49 years; children Jonathan (Angela) Lutz, Phillip (Tracy) Lutz and Katherine (Mark) Lovely and grandchildren; Lauren, Miles, Haley, Logan, Wade and Rowan; and brother Wayne Nixon.
She is preceded in death by both of her parents Maynard and Irene Ryan; adopted mother/grandmother Lena Nixon; grandfather Cecil Nixon; mother-in-law and father-in-law Lauren and Lucinda Lutz.
Karen had a great love of gardening, but a bigger love for her family as well as her fur babies. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandkids, whom she adored. She was truly devoted to her family, and she will be greatly missed.
A strolling visitation (25 people at a time) for Karen will be held Sunday, April 11, 2021 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Harry J. Will Funeral Home, 37000 Six Mile Rd., Livonia, MI 48152. Face masks are required, and social distancing will be practiced.
In-state viewing will occur Monday, April 12, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM with an 11:00 AM funeral service at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church, 17810 Farmington Rd, Livonia, MI 48152. Face masks are required, and social distancing will be practiced.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Karen's memory may be made to the Michigan Humane Society www.michiganhumane.org, Huron Valley Lutheran High School or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
