He was preceded in death by his parents John and Mary and his sister Marylou (Scannell) and Joanne (Ryan).
As a graduate of Mackenzie High School, John attended University of Detroit for a year before entering the military and serving the Army at FT Sill in Oklahoma. It was here that he married Joan Lawley, his true love from back home. Upon discharge from the Army, John secured a position with General Motors Chevrolet Spring and Bumper. In his 32 year career he served in many positions including Metallurgist and Lead Plating Chemist for the largest plating factory in the industry. John left GM in 1991 enjoying 30 full years of retirement!!
John’s true calling was as a model family patriarch and tremendous friend who could always be counted on to work harder than anyone and be able to fix or build anything that needed it. This skill went beyond cars, plumbing, electrical and woodworking to include, fixing broken hearts, adjusting attitudes and building your self-esteem. John’s ability to make everything better gave his entire family the confidence to “Try it.” knowing that Dad/Grandpa would always fix it if it went wrong!
As the biggest supporter of his family and friends, he was known for his great smile, his excessively quick wit, and deep philosophical insights. He was always first to provide the appropriate perspective on life events and drama! His sayings and philosophies could have filled a book, but no matter what, they always filled your heart with a smile and a laugh!!!
John is Survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan Antal, his 4 children: Lori Hollandsworth (Tim), Robert (Denise), Michael (Marsha), James (Maureen), 15 Grandchildren: Amy Hollandsworth (Ashley), Jeffrey Hollandsworth (Andrea), Janice Traub (Brett), Emily DeArmit (Currey), Taylor, Braden, Michael, Stephanie, Kelsey, Courtney, Zachary, Ella, Olivia, Avery, Callahan, and 10 Great Grand Children: Griffin, Tanner, Brody, Parker, Brooks, Easton, Rylee, Lucy, Victoria and Calyx.
