Born on April 17, 1931 he lived a life full of dedication to his family and community. John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Terry, who he called the love of his life, as well as his five children, John Jr. (Tina), Dale, Brian (Kathy), Peggy (Steve) Kassab, and Jennifer (Mark) Cooper. Additionally, he was a proud grandfather to thirteen wonderful grandchildren; Jack, Sam, Morgan, Kendall, David, Ellie, Charlie, Emma, Ben, Shelby, Isabelle, Lilly, and Will.
John was predeceased by parents Howard and Emma Anderson and his cherished sister Carol Canavan.
As a child John spent idyllic summers at his parent’s summer home on Sugarloaf Lake in Chelsea and, once married, took great joy in sharing this beautiful setting with his budding family.
John was a lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions, but most especially of his beloved Michigan Wolverines. He never tired of talking about the latest Wolverine victories, much to the chagrin of his three children that attended Michigan State.
John graduated in 1949 from Detroit Redford High School and went on to earn a degree in Business Administration from the University of Michigan. He retired in 1991 after 35 years at Ford Motor Company and in his final years took pride in telling people that he had by then been retired for almost as many years as he had worked.
Visitation will be held from 3–8pm on April 21 at the Harry J. Will Funeral Home in Livonia, followed by a memorial service at 11am the next day.
