Ironwood, MI; Joan Claire Durocher formerly of Plymouth, Michigan died on May 26, 2011. She was born Joan Claire Houle on December 13, 1927 in Ironwood, MI, the daughter of Arthur and Ann Houle. She attended St. Ambrose grade and high schools and graduated in 1945. Joan worked as a secretary and stenographer for the Treasury Department in the War Bond Division in Chicago, Illinois, for the Western Livestock Magazine in Denver, Colorado and for Ahonen Lumber and the Morgan Lumber Company of Ironwood. In 1952 she moved to Detroit, Michigan and worked for the Federal Housing Administration. On November 9,1957 she wed Wallace Richard Durocher at St. Martin Catholic Church in Detroit, Michigan. She made her home in Plymouth, Michigan and raised 3 children and worked at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Wallace Durocher, her parents Arthur and Ann (Saline) Houle, her brothers Francis, Arhtur Cyrilla, James and Paul Houle and sister Ann Sanders. She is survived by her son Gerard (Gina) Durocher of Plymouth, MI, her daughters Carol (Steven) Purcell of Pinckney, MI and Diane (James) Jackson of Bessemer, MI and 6 grandchildren; Luke and Tara Durocher, Anthony and Dawn Purcell and Thomas and Claire Jackson and by her sister Helen Paquette and 38 nieces and nephews. Joan loved her family very much and enjoyed spending time with them. She was an avid reader, an oil painter and she enjoyed gardening and was a devout Catholic. She was a member of St. Kenneth Catholic Church. She had a zest for life and a wonderful sense of humor and will be sorely missed. Visitations will be held at the Harry J. Will Funeral home in Livonia, MI on Friday June 3, 2011 from 4:30 pm until 8:30 pm and preceding Mass on June 4 from 9:30 am -10:00 am. A Mass and Christian burial will be celebrated by Father Thomas Belczak at St. Kenneth Catholic Church in Plymouth, MI. at 10 am on Saturday June 4, 2011. Joan will be interned at the Riverside Cemetery in Plymouth, MI
