Gary L. Vedder, age 76, of Waters, MI, was called home to be with the Lord on November 11th, 2024. He was born on December 20, 1947, to William Vedder and Josephine (Laura) Brunet Vedder. Gary was a devoted servant of Christ throughout his life. Gary’s unwavering faith and commitment to his family, friends, and community were defining characteristics that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Kay Vedder, and their children, Steven Vedder (special friend Tina) Kevin Vedder (and his wife, Jena), and two cherished grandchildren, Matthew and MacKenzie Vedder. He also leaves behind his siblings Beverly Berns, Ron LeBourdais (and his wife, Mary Kay), and Cal Vedder, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his siblings Kathy Brule’ and William Vedder, whose spirits he now joins in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
Gary Vedder dedicated over 30 years of his life to federal service, beginning with his enlistment in the U.S. Army, where he served as an air traffic controller during the Vietnam War. After his military service, Gary continued his career in public service, working for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and later as a U.S. Customs Supervisor. His commitment to his work and his country left a lasting impact on those he served alongside, and he retired with a legacy of integrity and dedication to the safety and security of the American people.
A lifelong member of the Lutheran faith, Gary was an active and faithful member of Mt. Hope (Grayling) and Hosanna-Tabor (Redford) Lutheran churches for many years. His love for Christ guided his every action, whether in his devotion to his family or his commitment to helping others. Gary’s faith was a source of comfort and strength to him, and it served as an example of steadfast love to all who encountered him.
Gary will be remembered for his gentle nature, his dedication to serving God, and the deep love he shared with his family. His faith in the promises of Christ assures us that he is now at peace, surrounded by the eternal light and love of the Lord.
Memorial services will be held to honor Gary’s life and faith. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Grayling, MI or your favorite charity in his memory.
Gary’s legacy of faith, love, and devotion will continue to inspire all those who were blessed to know him.
A visitation for Gary will be held Sunday, November 17, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Harry J Will Funeral Homes, 37000 W. Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan 48152. Military honors will occur Monday, November 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM, at Harry J. Will Funeral Homes, a funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM.
